Inside Disney’s Lilo & Stitch 2025 Premiere at El Capitan: Celebs, Food, and Tropical Vibes

This past Saturday, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Lilo & Stitch premiere at the iconic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. And leave it to Disney to turn a film screening into a full-blown tropical celebration.

Right off the bat, this premiere stood out. Unlike most red (or in this case, blue) carpet premieres that typically take place during the workweek, Monday through Thursday, since they're considered official industry events, this one was held on a Saturday. That’s a rare move. My guess? It’s a kids’ movie, so a weekend event made it more family-friendly and accessible for little ones (and their grown-ups) to attend without disrupting school or work schedules.

A Party Before the Movie

Another switch-up? The “after-party” was actually a pre-party, held before the film’s 3 p.m. start time. Guests were asked to check in at 1:30 p.m. to enjoy all the festivities in full Disney style. And let me tell you it was a paradise before the movie even began.

As soon as I arrived, I was greeted with a lei, a traditional Hawaiian garland of flowers, courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines. This beautiful gesture immediately transported us to the islands and set the tone for a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The blue carpet felt like stepping into the ocean complete with palm trees, tropical music, and laid-back vibes.

Celebrity Sightings and Brand Collabs

I spotted a few of my industry colleagues and some familiar influencer faces, including Patrick Starrr, who was rocking an absolutely stunning head wrap. Disney also partnered with a handful of brands for the event. Sun Bum gave out their signature sunscreen and lip balm (yes, we love sun protection and lip care), and Babybel Cheese had adorable snacks on hand. A full rundown of the pre-party activations is in the video below.

Island-Inspired Eats

Now, let’s talk food. After loading up on goodies, I made my way to the Hawaiian Ono catering station where I grabbed a chicken katsu bento box. I also tried Spam musubi for the very first time. Truthfully, I’m not a fan of seaweed, but this? Game changer. It was delicious. Before heading inside, there was one more surprise: a Dole Whip station serving that classic sweet pineapple treat. Yes, I was living my best tropical life in the heart of Hollywood.

Inside the Theater

Once inside the theater, I found my seat and realized I was sitting right next to Tia Mowry, who was there with her kids. Naturally, I had to compliment her gorgeous shoes, which led to a sweet little exchange before the lights dimmed.

Spoiler-Free Review: Nostalgia Meets Today’s Touch

Now, I won’t spoil the film (you know I respect the magic), but I will say this: Disney stayed true to the heart of the original Lilo & Stitch story while making some subtle but impactful updates that reflect today’s world. One notable change? The character Captain Gantu was removed in this 2025 live-action version, but to be honest, he wasn’t missed. The emotional depth, the humor, and that signature "ohana means family" message all remained beautifully intact. I cried four times, and I wasn’t alone. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. This film is a must-see, whether you grew up with the original or you’re introducing it to a new generation. I’d absolutely watch it again.
