I had the chance to sit down with Kavvi, the lead man of Luna Luna, right before his show at the iconic Roxy Theatre, our conversation was every bit as heartfelt as his music. We talked about his upbringing, the creative process behind his new EP For Siempre Pt. 1, and the inspiration that keeps his sound so unique.

Kavvi told me he works best in solitude. Most of his music comes to life in his apartment in Austin, where he finds peace and creativity away from distractions. You could instantly tell how much love and intention he puts into every melody.

A big part of that inspiration comes from being bilingual and growing up between two cultures. Born in Colombia, he moved to the U.S. at just six years old and quickly learned English. Speaking both languages is a part of who I am, he said. Like many first-generation Latinos, he grew up speaking Spanish at home and English everywhere else — an experience that’s deeply woven into his lyrics and identity.

When we talked about the early days of his music journey, Kavvi smiled as he remembered his beginnings in his mom’s house, creating music in his bedroom from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. during summer breaks while everyone else slept.

With songs that speak to love and emotion, I couldn’t resist asking what’s the craziest thing he’s ever done for love. Kavvi laughed and admitted he once risked a friendship in pursuit of love. Did it pay off? You’ll have to watch the full interview on YouTube to find out

Before wrapping up, I asked him if For Siempre Pt. 1 hinted at another chapter to come. He smiled and revealed — yes, there’s a Part 2 coming next year, and he shared that news with us exclusively.

Our conversation was one of those moments that reminded me why I love doing this — talking about family, roots, love, and music with artists who truly live their art.

Watch the full interview now on YouTube to catch our behind-the-scenes conversation before his Roxy performance and hear more about the heart behind Luna Luna’s sound.
